Philip Heldrich grew up in Northbrook, Illinois, "Speed Skating Capital of the World." He is the author of Good Friday, winner of the X.J. Kennedy Poetry Prize, and numerous short stories. He teaches writing at the University of Washington in Tacoma and directs the Southwest/Texas Popular and American Culture Associations. He lives close to Mt. Rainier in nearby Orting, Washington.
